depends on candidate's qualifications. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, Finance
& HR Operations The Assistant Director serves as a hands-on working
manager responsible for the daily execution of finance and HR
operations for ASU Health. This role actively performs and oversees
finance, budget, and HR operations while ensuring accuracy and
responsiveness. The Assistant Director balances day-to-day
execution with team coordination, ensuring processes run smoothly,
deadlines are met, and policies are followed. ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR,
Finance & HR Operations The Associate Director provides leadership
to ensure operational excellence across finance and HR functions
for ASU Health. Building upon full mastery of day-to-day
operations, this role focuses on process optimization and
performance management. The Associate Director ensures systems,
structures, and internal controls are scalable, efficient, and
aligned with long-term strategic objectives. This role supervises
professional staff and provides operational guidance to leadership.
Pay Range: $103,700 - $125,000; DOE Essential Duties – Assistant
Director Day-to-Day Financial Operations Prepare and review
financial transactions including journal entries, expense
transfers, budget reallocations, and costing allocations. Oversee
purchasing, travel, PCard, and reimbursement processes for
compliance and timeliness. Monitor operating, designated,
restricted, and grant accounts for accuracy. Reconcile accounts and
resolve discrepancies. Support fiscal year-end close activities.
Budget Management & Reporting Assist in developing the annual
operating budget for ASU Health and related initiatives. Develop
and maintain detailed budget tracking tools. Prepare monthly
financial reports and variance analyses. Conduct routine
forecasting and update projections throughout the fiscal year.
Track revenue and expense performance against budget. Provide
data-driven insights to unit leaders regarding financial status.
Translate financial data into clear summaries for non-financial
audiences. HR Transaction Oversight & Workforce Support Process
and/or directly oversee staff and student HR actions including
hires, funding changes, compensation updates, and separations.
Ensure position funding alignment and payroll accuracy. Monitor
vacancy savings and personnel projections. Serve as primary
operational liaison with central HR and Academic Personnel teams.
Ensure compliance with university HR policies and timelines.
Compliance & Process Management Review transactions to ensure
adherence to ASU and ABOR policies. Maintain documentation of
financial and HR procedures. Support audit preparation and
documentation requests. Identify process inefficiencies and
recommend improvements. Team Coordination & Working Supervision
Coordinate workflow across finance and HR operations. Provide
day-to-day guidance to analysts or coordinators as assigned. Set
expectations for timeliness and accuracy of deliverables. Train
staff on procedures and systems. Other Support special projects and
operational initiatives as assigned. Regular review of completed
tasks. Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and
report data. Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
Initiate confidential correspondence on behalf of the department .
Conduct interviews over the phone or in person. Supervise Staff
and/or students. Work both independently and within a complex
structured team. Use office equipment. Regular activities require
ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are
subject to resolution of conflicts. Frequent bending, reaching,
lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds (light). Other duties
as assigned. Essential Duties – Associate Director Includes all
responsibilities of the Assistant Director, plus the following
expanded scope: Operational Excellence & Process Optimization
Evaluate and propose improvements for finance and HR processes to
improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Establish
standardized operating procedures and service expectations with
input from supervisor. Implement performance metrics and dashboards
to monitor operational effectiveness. Identify automation
opportunities and system improvements. Advanced Budget Strategy &
Financial Planning Lead development of annual operating budgets;
assist with multi-year planning. Conduct forecasting and scenario
modeling for growth initiatives, new programs, and strategic
investments. Develop pro formas and cost analyses. Identify
financial risks and suggest mitigation strategies. Ensure alignment
between workforce plans and budget projections. Internal Controls &
Risk Management Lead audit coordination and corrective action
plans. Ensure compliance with ABOR, ASU, and applicable regulatory
requirements. Leadership & Talent Development Supervise and develop
finance and HR professionals. Establish performance expectations
and accountability standards. Mentor staff to build technical and
analytical capability. Ensure workload balance and cross-training
for business continuity. Workforce Strategy & Organizational
Planning Advise leadership on compensation, staffing structures,
and organizational design impacts. Partner with central HR on
complex employee relations or structural issues. Strategic &
Executive Support Serve as operational advisor to directors and
program leaders. Present financial and workforce analyses to senior
leadership. Represent ASU Health on committees and cross-functional
initiatives. Act as escalation point for finance and HR operational
matters. Desired Qualifications – Assistant Director Bachelor’s
degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public
Administration, or related field. 5–7 years of progressively
responsible experience in finance, budgeting, or business
operations. Direct experience performing financial analysis and
preparing budgets. Experience processing or overseeing HR
transactions in a complex organization. Strong Excel and financial
reporting skills. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Workday) and
budgeting/planning tools. Working knowledge of internal controls
and compliance requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage
multiple deadlines while performing detailed work. Strong written
and verbal communication skills. Experience in higher education,
healthcare, or public-sector environments preferred. Ability to
clearly communicate to perform essential functions Use of basic
math and a calculator Desired Qualifications – Associate Director
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or
related field. 8–10 years of progressive experience in finance,
budgeting, or business operations. Demonstrated experience leading
financial planning and operational improvements. Experience
supervising professional staff. Experience leading audits or
compliance reviews. Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to implement process improvements and performance metrics.
Experience in higher education, academic health, or healthcare
environments preferred. CPA, MBA, MPA, or related credential
preferred. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office
setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and
manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying
lengths of time and walk (moderate) distances to perform work
