JOB SUMMARY - The Mechanical Products Team is seeking a design engineer in the Shipboard Effectors Department. - The candidate will design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. - Develops or improves products, test equipment, or manufacturing processes. - Develops data and makes parametric models, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals. - Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. - Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs. - They will solve routine problems of varying scope and complexity following established policies and procedures with minimal direction or supervision. - QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE Bachelor's degree or additional 2 years of mechanical engineering experience may be substituted for each 1 year of college 2 years of experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD software or similar (Solidworks, CATIA, Inventor) The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance QUALIFICATIONS WE VALUE Understanding of basic principles, theories, and concepts for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation Technical knowledge sufficient to perform tasks such as preparation/changes to drawings/models and create new 3D models and drawings with general direction Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including simple tolerance analysis Interpret, apply, and make decisions regarding the application of documentation specification such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100 Mechanical design experience may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, airframe, surfacing, and mechanisms Knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes and techniques Knowledge of Windchill (cPDM) or similar CAD database managers Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others Ability to recognize roadblocks/issues and elevate/suggest appropriate corrective action Strong attention to detail and work ethic Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn and use internal tools Effective interpersonal, communication and networking skills, ability to work well with others including customers and suppliers - Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Requires theoretical to advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through University Degree combined with experience. Practical knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work. Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience. Engineering/Other Technical Positions:Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
