Job Description SUMMARYTeaches a part-time or full-time load of one or more of the following classes: Western Civilization, Economics, U.S. History (integrated with government and civics).Designs and carries out lessons so that all students are engaged in meaningful active learning while employing classical and Biblically integrated techniques.Creates a classroom culture that is Christian, positive, and constructive. PRIMARY FUNCTIONSThe full-time teaching load is 5 classes of high school history: four days of 85-minute block periods, and one day of 45-minute periods. Part-time teaching loads vary.Develops lessons and assignments that are focused on the developmental level and course standards, and engage students in developing their historical skills including looking for structure in God's creation, making sense of events and choices, reasoning ethically, and proposing responsible courses of action as American citizens. Maintain high expectations while also taking into account individual challenges of students.Evaluates student work in a timely fashion, and keep accurate records of grades and lesson plans. Communicate with parents when grades drop below satisfactory standards.Attends school meetings, including weekly devotions and staff meetings, new teacher training, department meetings, and parent meetings as needed. Meet with mentor teacher as needed to learn and grow within the culture of our school.Participates fully in the life of the school in terms of high-quality academics; professionalism and professional development; fulfilling our mission (Christ-follower, classical education, within a covenantal community); and school culture (mentoring, modeling, engaging in collaboration and covenantal relationships); supporting all members of the school community. OTHER FUNCTIONSAttends and supervises weekly school chapels and seasonal retreats/field trips.Leads a small group (10-15 students) for twice-monthly meetings. Highly recommended: one year teaching in grades 7-12, in the subject area. Specific Skills (technical or interpersonal)An energetic ability to learn, monitor, and adjust teaching methods and communication on-the-fly, as well as to interpret student engagement at all timesBasic comfort/ability using computers for grading, curriculum planning, and communication Licenses or Certifications: PRCA is affiliated with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). With the guidance of PRCA, teachers will work toward being licensed with ACSI. BASIC TEACHER EXPECTATIONS: Regular weekly attendance at a local Christian church PHYSICAL CONDITIONSSeveral hours per day standing, speaking, and actively listening, predominantly indoorsActive movement in classroom: manipulating teaching tools, moving between buildings and out-of-doors, and occasional work outdoors in desert climate.
