Job Description:

Mechanical Design Engineers are responsible for Mechanical product development, tooling, and analysis related to high power diode-based laser systems. This position requires design knowledge in various areas of Mechanical Engineering including but not limited to: component and assembly design, tooling design, FEA, CFD, 2D drawing creation, BOM creation, vendor selection and communication, efficient documentation and presentation, hands on product and tooling assembly and testing. Duties:Design and analysis of Mechanical components including, but not limited to:Mechanical AssembliesHeatsinksHeat ExchangersDynamic Optical AssembliesMedical grade assembliesMilitary grade assembliesDirect Diode Laser Sources and SystemsToolingOpto-Mechanical AssembliesElectro-Mechanical AssembliesAutomation components and systemsAutomotive grade assembliesSolid State Laser SystemsFiber Coupled Laser SystemsFluid Pumping Systems3D and 2D CAD design and detailing utilizing Solidworks with ANSI Y14.5M standards and GD&TManage project design and build outcomes within the assigned scopePrepare and present design reviews internally and to customers with clear and effective communication Solve difficult problems with sound Engineering principles and out of the box thinkingAssemble and debug prototypes, working closely with Technicians, Operators, and Engineers of multiple disciplinesCreate and organize design documentation including presentations, BOMs, test criteria, equipment plans, etc.Responsible for research, development, and implementation of new technologies to improve power output, reliability, efficiency, SWaP, and robustness of laser arrays and systems.Analysis of designs using ANSYS and other means to ensure compliance with requirements and sound Engineering practicesSkills/Qualifications:Required Skills/Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university2+ years' experience in a related Engineering field with similar duties for Engineer II4+ years' experience in a related Engineering field with similar duties for Engineer III6+ years' experience in a related Engineering field with similar duties for Sr. Engineer IA history of increasing responsibility and independent thinkingExperience with SolidworksExperience with FEA in Structures, Thermal, and Fluid flowCapable of working in a cleanroom environmentCapable of working hands on up to 50% of the time in the cleanroomDesired Skills/Qualifications:Familiarity with technologies for manufacturing precision mechanical components made from various metals and ceramics in low to medium volumeExpert user of SolidworksExperience with FEA, particularly ANSYS Mechanical and FluentExperience with laser systems, including diode arrays, solid-state, and fiber is preferredSome knowledge of optics is highly desiredPractical knowledge of ANSI Y14.5-2018Experience with composite metals used as a thermal interfaceExperience with metal additive manufacturing in a production environmentExperience with soldered assemblies and solder hierarchy Desire to work on products from concept to completionExperience with pumped two phase cooling systems [NOTE: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
