The Algorithm & Simulation (A&S) Directorate is responsible for
algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control;
radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal
Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation
for RMD's broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. The
Flight Sciences department, within Guidance, Navigation and Control
(GNC) is looking for motivated and dependable Controls Engineers
for our Autopilot and Control Actuation Systems (CAS) teams at our

Anticipate:Autopilot team
- You will apply knowledge of advanced controls & inertial
sensors to flight controls design & analysis of missile performance
in simulation, ground test, and flight test.
- In this role, you will develop solutions to complex control
problems and contribute to uncovering and resolving issues related
to development and implementation of flight controls systems.
- You will develop flight control system architectures and
requirements, implement control laws and design flight controls
algorithms to maximize program performance and robustness.
- You will develop missile state estimation algorithms, as well
as derive algorithms and filters to compensate for flexible body,
aeroservoelastic effects, and inertial coupling.Control Actuation
Systems team (CAS)
- You will develop actuation control system architectures and
requirements
- You will implement advanced control laws to maximize
performance
- You will develop high fidelity motor and flexible gear train
models containing nonlinearity and temperature dependencies
- You will be responsible for analysis of actuation performance
in simulation, ground, and flight testAn advanced degree in a
related field may be substituted for 2 additional years of
experience and a PhD can account for 5 years of experience as
required for this position.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or Bachelor's
degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
- Five (5) years of experience in control system design and
analysis (Can be a combination of professional experience and
directly relevant academic experience)
- Course work, independent research, and/or work experience that
includes a combination of at least two of the following: classical
and modern control system design techniques, modeling of system
dynamics, state estimation, servo-mechanism control, or DC motor
control
- Experience developing or modifying code in higher level
compiled languages such as Fortran, Ada, and/or C/C++
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S.
citizens are eligible for a security clearanceQualifications We
Value:
- Existing U.S. security clearance
- Research and/or applied experience in advanced control design
techniques in areas such as nonlinear, robust, optimal, adaptive,
fault-tolerant, and real-time control
- Air vehicle autopilot design experience over a wide range of
aerodynamic regimes such as subsonic, transonic, supersonic,
hypersonic, and non-continuum flows.
- Experience with embedded software development and
hardware/software integration
- Experience with brushed or brushless DC motors
applications
- Experience assessing GNC system integration risks through test
data analysis
- Performance analysis by simulation, including verification and
validation techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate
effectively with senior leadership and other engineering
disciplines
- Strong collaboration skills and experience leading a
GNC-focused development team
- Master's or PhD Degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer
