Job Summary:

As the Missile Defense Discrimination Signal Processing Engineering Fellow, you will use your system-level and algorithms knowledge of Missile Defense Discrimination and the Missile Defense Kill Chain, and established relationships with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and other potential customers, to help guide and foster the development of advanced Discrimination techniques that is consistent with, and can help shape, the customer's technology road map. You will perform critical system trades, resolve complex signal processing problems, and advise program and engineering management teams in pursuit of organizational business targets. Signal Processing Fellows are demonstrated industry experts, versatile, innovative, and eager to share their knowledge.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • You will apply knowledge of algorithm development in electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) image processing (detection and estimation, tracking, feature extraction, clutter rejection, discrimination, and phenomenology exploitation), and sensor/information/decision fusion with radar frequency (RF) sensors
  • You will mentor others in the development of technical solutions to complex signal processing problems that require application of advanced technical concepts involving multiple subsystem interactions, and guide the successful completion of signal processing development and integration efforts in a technical expert capacity
  • You will work alone, and with early career engineers, to uncover and resolve issues associated with development and implementation of Discrimination and Kill Chain system designs
  • You will collaborate across programs, and represent the organization as a subject matter expert as you engage with counterparts in the customer community, technical oversight organizations such as MIT-Lincoln Laboratories and JHU-Applied Physics Laboratory, and senior technical and management staff at industry partners
  • You will interact with senior managers to plan and execute programs to accomplish long-range goals, while also helping to shape the strategic direction of technology to accomplish long-term goals
  • You will oversee a technical team, mentor engineers, and/or manage engineering projects
  • You will engage in the development of intellectual property that advances our capabilities in Missile Defense Discrimination and Missile Defense Kill Chain elementsQualifications You Must Have:

    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering disciplines, natural or physical sciences, Mathematics, or Physics
    • With a Bachelor's Degree listed above, you must have 12 years or more of documented work experience designing, implementing, and testing Missile Defense Discrimination algorithms and Kill Chain system elements (A Master's Degree will satisfy 2 years of work experience and a PhD will satisfy 3 years of work experience)
    • At least eight (8+) years of documented experience with systems engineering of EO/IR systems pertaining to missile defense, including system-level requirements allocation
    • Documented working relationships with the various pillars of the MDA
    • Documented experience with proposal preparation to obtain new business contracts, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures, and cost estimation
    • Documented experience successfully procuring research and development funding both internal and external to the company
    • Documented experience using C/C++ and MATLAB/Python
    • Must be the author of intellectual property (patent disclosures) or conference/journal publications in a signal processing technical area relevant to Missile Defense, within the past ten (10) years
    • Active DoD Secret clearanceQualifications We Value:

      • Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics
      • Experience assessing EO/IR sensor system integration risks through laboratory, ground, and flight test data evaluation
      • System-level design experience across multiple engineering disciplines such as guidance, navigation, and control; modeling & simulation; software; electrical subsystems; and test engineering
      • Experience in autonomous and collaborative systems; calibration of EO/IR sensors; or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
      • DoD Top Secret clearance with current SSBI within last 5 years
