Duties & ResponsibilitiesCreates mechanical system design meeting mechanical and optical requirements.Optimizes mechanical and optical performance of systems through iterative design processes including FEA, and thermal analysis.Performs tolerance analysis at system and subsystem level.Works with a design and engineering team to create full drawing packages with GD&T and detailed AIT (assembly, integration and testing) plans.Provides practical, hands-on skills in working with engineers and technicians in a lab environment.Works with vendors to manufacture pars, subsystems and systems per requirements and, peers and management.Creates technical documents such as reports, slides and plans.Support design reviews such as CoDR, PDR and CDR. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Minimum Qualifications BS in optical sciences, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, optical engineering or similar fields, advanced degree an advantage. Preferred QualificationsExperience in 3D mechanical design software (e.g. Solidworks)Experience with FEA (structure and/or thermal) modelling software (e.g. ANSYS)Knowledge of alignment, integration and testing of optical system.Knowledge of engineering mechanics, kinematics.Knowledge of vibration, control, heat transfer an advantage . Experience in aerospace application, telescopes, large scale precision mechanical system an advantage.
