This includes support for priorities at outlined and documented within the annual Development Plan including support for associated Institutes and Centers. This position is subject to joint management by RII and the University of Arizona Foundation as specified in the Development Services and Asset Management Agreement dated August 2016. The Director works in cooperation with the University of Arizona Foundation---s (Foundation) Leadership Team, the Senior Vice President, Research and Innovation, the Chief of Staff, Research, Innovation and Impact, and other campus leaders, as well as University Alumni Development Program (UADP) colleagues, including scholarship administration, foundation relations, gift planning, stewardship, events, and college based frontline fundraisers. The Director is a frontline fund raiser focused on the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective major gift ($25,000) donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Director will report directly to the Vice President for Development and has a dotted line report to the Chief of Staff of the office of Research Innovation and Impact. Duties & Responsibilities: Duties & Responsibilities: Develop personalized strategies for all assigned donors and prospects which builds, maintains and enhances relationships while furthering donors--- philanthropic objectives. Help to support and promote a culture of philanthropy across the UA and work effectively as part of the greater UADP. Plan, coordinate, and schedule weekly personal visits with prospects and donors utilizing UADP software, introductory letters, emails and phone calls to set appointments. Maintain current and accurate records of donor prospects in the UADP computer records system. On a weekly basis, enter contact reports of all visits, significant telephone conversations, letters and correspondence, gift solicitations, and other communications with donors. Maintain information about current and future gift proposals (asks). Provide input and direction for development-focused newsletters, invitations, brochures, and other publications/communications, as needed. Design and manage solicitation and stewardship plans in Lynx to support fundraising initiatives. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the assigned areas and work closely with the leadership of those operations to understand priorities of the programs. Ensure all contributions are properly documented and handled in accordance with the University of Arizona Gift Policy. Work with UADP Marketing and Communications to development print and online development materials related to the assigned areas. Work closely with college and regional development officers. Partners with, and effectively utilizes, the development professionals and resources of the UADP, including campus-based development teams, the offices of Regional Development; Gift Planning; Annual Giving (telephone, direct-mail, and e-solicitation services); Leadership Annual Giving; Board and Donor Engagement: Marketing and Communications; Prospect Development; Financial Services; Information Services; and the Foundation Relations/Grant Information, Facilitation, and Training (GIFT) Center (preparation and submission of grant proposals to foundations). Utilizes the common systems, policies and procedures adhered to by UADP team members. Creatively leverages outreach activities (e.g. tours, lectures, exhibits, etc.) to develop new major gift prospects. After an initial 3-6 month on-boarding period, execute an agreed upon metric of at least 100 current or prospect donor visits and the successful closure of 15 major/principal gift proposals per year, with an expectation of $1M raised after the initial on-boarding period (with incremental increases after the first year). Represent the UA and UADP at public events, including agreed-upon delivering remarks. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Knowledge, Skills,& Abilities: Ability to understand and follow all Federal, UA and UADP policies and procedures, including UA and UADP scholarship and financial aid policies, as well as the University of Arizona Gift Policy. Knowledge and understanding of development and fund-raising principles and procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong ability to create personal relationships, and proven success in executing moves management actions and closing six-figure philanthropic gifts. Ability to effectively communicate the University of Arizona mission, strategic plan, and case for philanthropic support. Ability in developing and executing plans for large fundraising initiatives. Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with donors, UADP colleagues, and UA faculty, administration and staff members. Ability to inspire cooperation and participation. Ability to make good decisions and to exercise good judgment and discretion. Ability to maintain donor confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand and work with budgetary procedures and policies. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Excellent initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Knowledge of computer programs such as MS Office products and donor databases. Demonstrated knowledge of development and fundraising principles and procedures. Ability to work with volunteers, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to write proposals, grants, and reports. Outstanding interpersonal/relationship skills. Excellent oral and written communications. Ability to work across multiple teams and diverse priorities. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor---s Degree from an accredited university program. Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Possession of a valid driver---s license upon employment and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy . Preferred Qualifications: Fundraising experience in a higher education setting. Experience with, knowledge of, and enthusiasm for the UA, the UA Strategic Plan, and the Research at the UA. Experience writing grants and working with private foundations and institutional funders. Experience working with researchers including digital, physical, and biological.
