Position Highlights

The University of Arizona seeks an innovator to serve as the leader of a high-profile Center that includes scientific leaders in clinical informatics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, sensor data and imaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and direction of the Center while developing long-term infrastructure to support current and novel research opportunities. They will provide leadership in building national, regional and local visibility and enhancing the Center's reputation. The Director of CB2 will be a well-regarded visionary, who also brings a decisive and collaborative style that matches the speed of change and the culture of the organization. They will have longstanding and firsthand working knowledge of large-scale research programs. The Director will be an outstanding communicator, both written and oral, with the demonstrated skills to build collaborations, create consensus and implement broad programs across a multi-stakeholder environment.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Health Sciences and is a key member of the Health Sciences senior leadership team, which includes Health Sciences Vice Presidents, College Deans and other Center Directors. The Director serves on relevant committees, searches, and participates in other initiatives relevant to the Center.

The Director will have the exciting opportunity to expand the Center with the full support of UArizona Health Sciences. CB2 is a key component of the UArizona Health Sciences strategic plan and new economic initiatives. Duties & Responsibilities

The Director sets the vision, priorities and strategies for the Center within the UArizona Health Sciences, and will work to foster alignment and joint strategic decision making while optimizing collaboration by:

• Serving as the Center's strategic, academic and operational leader to include budget and fiscal management, recruitment, appointment and retention, as well as general operations and administration of the Center consistent with University of Arizona/ABOR policies and procedures.
• Developing policies and processes for optimizing Center partnerships and programs and is a key liaison between stakeholders.
• Exercising considerable judgement and responsibility for identifying Health Sciences and University-wide impacts, coordinating responses to the SVP for Health Sciences on strategies and providing alternatives for resolving issues.
• Maintaining relationships with organizations such as Banner Health and other regional health care providers, as well as cultivating new partnerships and pursuing mutually beneficial opportunities.
• Maintaining an active research program, to participate fully and with distinction in both undergraduate and graduate education, and to carry out advising duties and committee assignments.
• Providing critical leadership in efforts to advance precision health approaches to health outcomes and health care delivery and in the development of big data analytical tools and resource services in support of the University's research and clinical service missions.
• Setting the education and training vision of the Center by leading and inspiring faculty, students and community engagement in classroom, laboratory, clinical and interprofessional education
• Managing internal and external advisory bodies, which may include an external advisory board, community advisory board and internal advisory board, to provide feedback and advice to the Center to facilitate its advancement and foster its relationship to the University and philanthropic communities and the people of Arizona.
  
  Minimum Qualifications
  
  • Doctoral Degree (MD, DO, MD/PhD, or PhD)
  • 8-10 years of work related experience
  • Meet the requirements for a faculty appointment as an associate professor or professor in the appropriate college / department
    
    Preferred Qualifications
    
  • Experience in Health Sciences / Academic Medical Centers
  • Management and leadership expertise with a commitment to transparency in leadership.
  • Skills in locating and securing external funding.
  • Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Understands the challenges facing clinicians looking to perform high quality research and has a vision for supporting such research.
  • Has a track record of facilitating research collaborations between clinicians and data analysts.
  • Experience managing large informatics networks, particularly those involving patient level data (i.e. EHRs)
  • Knowledge and experience with contracts, contract negotiations, and regulations to acquire, access, and use different types of data.
