Job Posting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Interfaith Community Services (ICS) Position Effective: January 1, 2019 Overview of ICS Since 1985, Interfaith Community Services has carried out a mission in the Tucson metro area ---to help people in need achieve stable and independent lives.--- ICS provides essential safety-net services such as food, job help and emergency assistance to help those in need with tools to build pathways to self-sufficiency and out of poverty. ICS mobilizes volunteers to help older adults live with independence at home with mobile meals, transportation, and health advocacy. ICS brings together and leverages the caring power of 108 diverse faith community partners, 36 staff members, 857 active volunteers and a myriad of community partners to positively change and impact lives. In the fiscal year 2017-18, ICS served 36,552 people in need with programs ranging from food banks to emergency financial assistance and caregiving services. ICS has grown from a small northwest center to a major, countywide partner in Pima County's emergency services network with $7 million in revenue, a healthy endowment fund, a diverse funding base, debt-free, and a reputation for program quality and fiscal effectiveness. ICS has earned Charity Navigator's highest rating of four stars for nine consecutive years, putting ICS in the top 2% of charities rated nationwide. For more information on Interfaith Community Services and its work visit www.icstucson.org The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Interfaith Community Services (ICS) is responsible for assuring that the mission and vision of ICS are achieved. He/she develops and implements the strategies necessary to advance ICS and manages the organization's day-to-day operations. Reporting to and in tandem with the Board of Directors and senior managers, he/she develops and oversees specific goals and strategies to advance programs and services, ensure financial stability, maximize community relevance, and ensure organizational efficiency. The CEO is highly visible representing ICS in Tucson and helps to build a strong brand identity. He/she is responsible for relationship management with all of the organization's constituent groups --- faith communities, donors and funding organizations, volunteers, government and civic leaders, and other partners to advance the mission and vision of ICS. While the CEO is ultimately responsible for policies and operations, ICS functions with a strong senior staff that directly supervises staff, activities, and programs, and to whom the CEO delegates responsibilities for the success of the organization. The Board of Directors has identified these priorities among the qualities of leadership to be exhibited by the incoming CEO: Comfortable moving in circles of community leaders. Can successfully solicit funding for ICS. Highly professional and trustworthy, with business acumen. Strategic visionary. Can develop a plan for the future using strong planning skills. Educator and developer of people; proven experience working with volunteers and boards of directors; strong communication skills, likeable, inclusive, and embracing of the ICS culture. Capacity to learn quickly the programs and community partnerships of ICS. Able to drive implementation of goals through motivation and delegation. Able to move comfortably in a diverse faith community environment. Demonstrates a heart for the ICS mission. Now serving or has served in an executive position in a nonprofit organization. Significant resource development knowledge and experience in individual major gifts, government contracts, and/or foundation & corporate support. Financial management knowledge. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Values, Vision and Strategic Leadership Support, communicate and advocate for the ICS mission and vision. Create and enable the future of the ICS through strategic planning, community collaboration and participation. In consultation with the Board, continue to implement the 2018-20 strategic plan for the future with measurable goals, taking into account the changing local, regional, and national environments. Direct the annual implementation, monitoring, and revision of the strategic plan as an ongoing assessment of the organization's progress. Ensure Financial Stability Ensure a strong budgeting and forecasting system, including operating and capital expenses. Involve and coach the senior staff in this process. Work toward a yearly goal of a balanced budget, and maintain three-year projections. Oversee the preparation of regular financial reports for the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Board. Ensure all financial policies and procedures are followed, including audit recommendations. Seek out, cultivate and steward relationships with potential and existing donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. Serve as a key partner in fund development meetings and activities. Advance Program Management and Quality Assurance Review and evaluate program performance, with full attention to programs at all locations. Develop new programming as appropriate and as funding opportunities arise Ensure that volunteers are trained and supported to provide quality services. Ensure compliance with all contracts, policies and applicable regulations, plus accuracy of all agency records. Maintain a strong working knowledge of the issues and needs of the community. Maximize Community Relevance Oversee client- and donor-focused marketing and public relations strategies to achieve revenue goals and to increase the visibility and community relevance. Assume primary responsibility for external relationships with constituencies and stakeholders within Tucson and Southern Arizona. Provide regular and persuasive internal and external communications to increase enthusiasm for ICS activities among existing and prospective stakeholders. Serve as the primary spokesperson in the community in advancing ICS's mission and vision. Ensure Organizational Efficiency Oversee staffing to ensure the organization is effectively structured and staffed. Provide leadership to staff to ensure maximum effectiveness through coaching, feedback, staff planning, support and accountability. Work with Board leadership to best utilize the talents and resources of individual members. Participate with and assist Board committees to develop and implement their goals and objectives that align with strategic plan. Develop strategies to inspire, mobilize and utilize non-board volunteers in support of ICS. Provide leadership so the organization meets standards of excellence in governance, fiscal responsibility and human relations as outlined by Charity Navigator, GuideStar, Board Source, Better Business Bureau and other standard-setting organizations. Additional competencies: The CEO brings a resourceful and entrepreneurial perspective with the ability to work in a collaborative style and maintain balance in a demanding and fluid environment. Communicates effectively, building rapport and relating well to people with varying values. Consistently places a high value on ICS's extensive network of internal and external stakeholders with a keen focus on understanding, and appreciating, feedback. Demonstrates the ability to connect dots, sees big-picture, and recognizes long-term effects and future trends. Possesses the ability to solve multiple issues with one decision. Prioritizes and completes tasks necessary to meet or exceed the mutually agreed upon expectations while being accountable for personal and professional actions.
