Responsibilities
The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) seeks a Neurologist eager to practice clinical medicine in an academic teaching environment. Expertise in providing care to patients with a wide variety of neurological disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings is an essential requirement. Proficiency in EMG/NCV and/or EEG interpretation is desirable but not essential. SAVAHCS is a tertiary referral center for VA facilities in VISN 22 and the major teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

In addition to state-of-the-art clinical care programs and neuroimaging facilities, SAVAHCS has residency and fellowship training programs including a Neurology residency program, educational development programs, clinical outcome trials, and translational science research. Clinicians actively participate in teaching of residents and students, therefore the selected candidate must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona. Research opportunities are available.

      Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
      
      Basic Requirements:
      • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
      • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
      • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
      • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
      • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

        Physical Requirements:Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in a hospital setting under normal and emergent conditions while working closely with others. Moderate lifting, 15-44 lbs; straight pulling/pushing up to 1 hour; reaching above shoulder; both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; near/far vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.Education
