Telemetry Per Diem Nights Position Summary The Nursing Student
Intern (NSI) completes work in accordance with standards of the
specific environment under the direct supervision of the RN or
Clinical Manager. The NSI is required to provide an excellent
patient experience consistent with Relationship-Based Care. Follows
established policy and procedures as directed. Performs all job
duties in a safe manner with respect to safety and to self and
others. Equipment and supplies maintained, monitored, and
malfunctions reported to manager. Uses time management and
flexibility in organizing and prioritizing workload to provide
optimal service to the department and network. Accountable for
performing and providing quality patient care in the specific
environment. Effectively performs direct patient care tasks to
assist licensed personnel. Recognize and respect cultural and
spiritual differences and demonstrate culturally competent care.
Responsibilities Level 1 - Skilled (Meets Competency Based Skills
Checklist Assessment) Provide specific nursing care under the
direction of an RN or Clinical Manager and ensure that activities
of daily living are provided; including hygiene, mobility, and
feeding. Measure and record vital signs. Monitor and record intake
and output measurement. Measure oxygenation with pulse oximetry.
Obtain weight using standing, sling, bed, or chair scale. Report
patient complaints of pain. Report observations of changes in
patient's conditions such as vital signs and level of consciousness
to an RN in a timely manner. Perform or assist with bathing,
oral/denture care and shampooing. Observe for changes in skin
integrity and ensure that patients receive adequate position
changes to prevent skin breakdown. Measure for, apply, and remove
anti-embolism stockings. Apply and remove sequential-compression
devices. Apply and remove Buck's traction after initial application
by RN or PT. Provide care, as directed by the RN according to the
SKIN bundle. Implement fall prevention interventions as directed by
the RN. Collect and accurately label patient specimens at the
patient bedside. Collect urine specimens from urinary catheters
using aseptic technique. Perform fingerstick blood glucose
measurements. Assist with or feed patients unable to feed
themselves. Monitor intake. Assist with food delivery and tray
pick-up. Assist with elimination by offering appropriate toileting
in a timely manner. Perform bladder scans for bladder volume.
Insert single or double lumen urinary catheters that are packaged
as closed systems. Hang un-medicated continuous bladder infusion
solutions and record amount infused and output. Administer
un-medicated enemas. Apply cardiac monitoring equipment. Perform
12-lead ECGs. Remove dressing, as directed by an RN. Apply select
dressings as directed by an RN. Empty and measure drainage from
wound drains. Accurately observe, collect, identify, and document
data on appropriate form in a timely manner. Report information to
RN. Use acceptable abbreviations and terminology. Documentation
must be legible. Level 2 - Proficient (in addition to above duties)
Participate in the transport of patients on cardiac monitors, as
directed by an RN, once deemed competent in basic rhythm
recognition. Perform venipuncture for blood collection after
receiving specific venipuncture training. Level 3 - Subject Matter
Expert (in addition to above duties) Assist physician with
examinations, procedures, and other direct patient care as
directed. Maintain established departmental policies and
procedures, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Qualifications: THE STUDENT NURSE TELEMETRY PER DIEM NIGHTS
CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION,
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE. Education Required: High
School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). Currently
enrolled in accredited registered nursing program - within a year
of graduation. Certificates Required: Valid CPR Card.(American
Heart Experience Association required). Preferred: Knowledge of
hospital environment desired. Previous hospital and/or health care
related experience preferred. Skills Required: Must possess
effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge
Required: Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Technology Preferred: Basic computer skills. Other Required: Must
be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends. Must be
able to perform required duties, including lifting and
transferring, using proper body mechanics. #LI-MC2 JOB: Nursing
