Care Associate Job Description Caregiver nature & scope: Provides direct care to residents as outlined in the customized service plan and as defined through Cascade Living Group policy and training. Minimum eligibility requirements Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly. Must possess current first aid and CPR certification. Previous experience working with the elderly. Criminal Record Exemption Clearance Fingerprint Clearance Card Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to communicate with residents, family and friends. Exceptional organizational skills. High level of ability in effective and succinct communication, written and oral with residents, families, staff, vendors and the general public Must be capable of maintaining full-time attendance Must meet all health requirements, including TB screening Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (essential job functions), with or without reasonable accommodation Must pass criminal background check Must have valid transportation Essential functions Be accountable for the care of the people in a designated area of the building. Maintain good lighting, temperature and safety for the people assigned to you. Ensure apartments are orderly and tidy, trash is emptied and personal care items are properly stored. Complete laundry tasks as assigned. Maintain resident clothing and closet in a clean, neat and orderly manner. Assists residents from apartments to activities and meals. Assists residents to the bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, denture/oral care, shower and dress. Notify housekeeping of spills, soiled areas, assist with clean up as needed. Complete clean up in the absence of housekeeping staff. Notify maintenance of items that need repair or present a safety risk to clients, employees or visitors. Maintain common areas of the building in an orderly manner. Promote customer service and positive community relations by treating residents, families, team members, and visitors in a courteous, helpful and friendly manner. Set dining room tables. Serve meals and assist residents with eating. Clear tables, tidy dining room, sweep & mop floors. Conduct life enrichment activities as assigned. Restock resident supplies as needed. Clean assistive devices, including walkers & wheelchairs, as needed. Read and follow customized service plans and updates. Complete all forms and documentation such as change of condition reports, behavior tracking in a timely manner. Become knowledgeable about the residents' biographies, preferences, habits and interests. Attend in-services. Observe residents for changes of condition, communicates observations to the charge nurse or Wellness Director. Meet and greet new residents and their family members as well as tour guests. Make a significant contribution to the quality of life of the people who live in the community by initiating meaningful connections. Other duties as assigned by Charge Nurse, Wellness Director or Associate Executive Director. Joint decisions & duties between Care Associate and Licensed Nurses: Seeks guidance as needed from licensed nurse, resident services director and/or wellness director Assist with cost control by utilizing resources efficiently and in a waste free mannner Customer service Responsible for ensuring that all employees are providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers Residents' rights Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents' rights Training Attends training sessions as directed Maintains on-going training and CEUs as required for licensure or state regulations Other Follow & communicate company policies and procedures Participates in daily standup meetings. The job description provides a framework for the job, other duties may be assigned as necessary Working conditions (travel, hours, environment) Has a do-what-it-takes frame of mind and operates with an ownership attitude. Works throughout the community. Moves often during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with resident, personnel, and visitors under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff and visitors. Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors and staff. Work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., through the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Physical/sensory requirement Medium work: ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Experience extreme change in temperature at times and may be exposed to higher than normal temperatures while working. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents and staff. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the community.
