The successful candidate will support the Recruitment, Data Collection and Sample Management Core of this project, which aims to identify which environmental products that cause children born in the border city of Nogales, Mexico to have four time less asthma than Mexican-American children born in Tucson, Arizona, less than 100 miles apart. • Responsible for recruitmentand follow up of BEAMS participants in Tucson AZ. Involves screening ofpotential subjects at El Rio midwifery clinics and enrolling those who areeligible for the project following established procedures. The coordinator will be responsible formaintaining contact with these participants and conducting multiple home visitsat which questionnaires and samples will be collected. She/he will also be responsible for drawingblood on infants/children at 3, 12 and 24 months and will assist other studystaff in collection of both human and environmental samples. Travel may berequired.
  • Assist withdevelopment of visit plans and procedures for each stage of the research. This includes addressing processes,materials, timelines and personnel; development of procedures for samplecollection and distribution; and designing of forms for internal monitoring ofprogress with data and sample collection.
    • Sample management. Responsible for processing of samples in the field as well as transportand distribution of samples to the appropriate laboratories and maintainingchain of custody information on all samples.
      • Monitoring of allaspects of data collection. Reportingregularly on progress to Core leadership and participating in writing ofprogress reports. Maintaining ofaccurate and detailed records in accordance with Federal Regulations as well asstudy protocols.
        • Supervises junior research personnel, if so assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
          • Possess a current Arizona driver's license.
          • Transportation for home visits when State car is notavailable.
          • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
          • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
