Responsibilities

As an Information Technology Specialist (Information Security) GS-14, you will perform the following duties:

  • Implements higher-level security requirements such as those relating from laws, regulations, and presidential directives;
  • Integrates security programs across disciplines;
  • Develops long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipates, identify, evaluate, mitigate, and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities;
  • Resolves integration issues related to the implementation of new systems with the existing infrastructure; and
  • Reviews proposed new systems, networks, and network software designs for potential security risks.

Qualifications

In order to be found minimally qualified for this position, you must meet both the Basic Requirements and Minimum Qualifications as outlined below:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: You must have Information Technology related experience, demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification) which demonstrates proficiency in each of the following competencies:

  • Problem Solving: Identifying risks and issues and provide recommendations for mitigation or resolution.
  • Oral Communication: Leading a team in the analysis, planning, establishment of requirements, and other related business, management, and technical duties to initiate IT projects including reporting on cost, schedule and performance.
  • Customer Service: Generating performance measures, monitoring achievements, reporting variances, responding to data calls and contributing to briefing.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring IT project adherence to regulations and governance policies.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE BASIC REQUIREMENT, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service, performing duties such as:

  • Applies new information technology security developments to ensure current guidelines are updated accurately;
  • Applies project management principles and methods to gain an overview knowledge of future IT enterprise infrastructure;
  • Processes engineering concepts to comply with organizational standards;
  • Leads implementation activities;
  • Assesses new systems design methodologies to improve software quality.
