TOPCU is offering a $1,000.00 sign-on bonus for this position. Current and Returning employees are not eligible for this bonus.

Remote options are within AZ only. Those applying outside of AZ will not be considered.

TOPCU, a progressive and innovative Tucson Credit Union, where the work is rewarding, and your contribution is recognized, is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team. The pay for this position will be $22.50 - $29.00 per hour dependent upon experience.

Using knowledge of loan risk eligibility per TOPCU policies, the Senior Consumer Underwriter examines, evaluates, and authorizes approval or denial of borrower's applications for credit.


Independently decision consumer loan applications ensuring decisions are within authorized lending limits and within the Credit Union's lending policies.
Make loan policy exceptions in the best interest of the member and TOPCU. Make recommendations for loan applications outside of lending authority to a higher level of lending authority.
Review and evaluate financial statements, personal and business tax returns, property valuations, credit reports, applicable ratios (i.e., debt to income, loan-to-value, etc.) and other supporting documentation.
Review member records and overall credit union relationship.
Ensure loan decisions meet service level agreements; are timely, complete and in accordance with policy and requirements set out in regulation.
Responsible for advanced pipeline management with an emphasis on organization and multi-tasking including queue monitoring both within the department and interdepartmentally.
Contact TOPCU staff or loan applicant to obtain further information, present data and/or explain policy or procedures.
Develop and/or maintain relationships with TOPCU employees and auto dealers including regular dealer visits.
Communicate with TOPCU staff and dealer personnel to gather the required information for a credit application, explain loan options, rates, terms, and collateral requirements.
Be proactive in searching for loan steal opportunities and other cross sell opportunities, such as debt protection, GAP or other credit union products and services, when reviewing loan applications for approval.
Effectively document loan decisions, including any specific product requirements and notations for policy exceptions.
Provide timely, accurate and complete reports as requested by supervisor and ensure steps are taken to correct unsatisfactory results
Stay abreast of loan product parameters and any changes in underwriting procedures.
Process loan applications submitted via indirect lending channels to prepare for funding.
Assist less experienced colleagues with communicating decisions or requesting more information from applicants and TOPCU staff, developing sound credit decisions based on policy and procedure, and offering financial solutions to the membership.
Assist with work direction and/or training to junior level team members and provide performance feedback to supervisor(s)/manager(s).
Prepare detailed reports regarding quality performance and trends. Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education, Experience and Training

High School Diploma or GED
Two years of experience in consumer lending underwriting with a strong knowledge of indirect lending required
Two or more years of underwriting experience strongly preferred
