We strive to provide not only superior technology and design, but also outstanding quality, service, and application support.This exciting role within Analytical Instruments' microbiology Center of Excellence located in Tucson, AZ, works within a highly collaborative team of scientists and engineers tasked with the design and development of robust rapid microbiological monitoring (RMM) methods. You will be able apply your knowledge of traditional filtration and plating techniques to help identify and quantify microorganisms while leveraging your diagnostics and good laboratory practices to test, analyze, and develop novel scientific instrumentation for the Life Sciences industry.Key Responsibilities:

  • Using good aseptic laboratory techniques, conduct experiments with a wide range of analytical instrumentation and sensitive measuring devices and equipment.
  • Develop robust test plans, maintain accurate test records, analyze data, summarize results, and author test reports.
  • Provide training, provide technical guidance, and support demonstration and application development activities for internal and external audiences.
  • Troubleshoot issues to determine root cause, suggest/implement improvements and preventative measures for instruments under development.
  • Research, evaluate, and contribute ideas for new technologies, reagents and methods supporting the RMM mission.
  • Overnight domestic and international travel 5%Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Manage laboratory and instruments records, SOP's, safety protocols.
    • Procure materials and equipment for use in experiments.
    • Manage traceable equipment inventory to ensure the timely calibration and preventative maintenance of measurement equipment.
    • Communicate status of tasks, schedules, and action plan milestones to the team.The ideal candidate has experience working with microbiological sampling and testing within the Life Sciences industry (pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device). Having been exposed to traditional QC micro methodologies, the successful candidate will have a passion for developing new techniques and assessing the performance of novel instrumentation that can help make lab analysts' jobs more efficient while ensuring high quality to maintain/improve patient outcomes.Core Qualifications:
      • Associates Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Engineering or similar required
      • 1 year or more experience with aseptic methods, cell culturing and plating requiredOther Useful Skills and Abilities:
        • 1 year or more experience with analytics lab or instrumentation environment preferred
        • Basic lab skills including weighing, pipetting, standard preparation, pH measurement, etc.
        • Detail oriented with a focus on delivering quality results
        • Excellent interpersonal skills with emphasis on empathy, engagement, teamwork, and positive attitude.
        • Curious with a desire to learn and understand new processes and technologies.
        • Skilled with aseptic practices for bacterial or cell culture processes
        • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to summarize data and present to various audiences
        • Working knowledge of MS Office apps (especially Word, Excel and Outlook).
        • Working knowledge of basic statistics, data analysis, hypothesis testing.
        • Self-starter, ability to be effective with little direction.
        • Mechanical aptitude with dexterity to work with instrumentation and maintain, troubleshoot, repair lab equipment.
