big picture.Job Summary: The Materials Engineering Department,
which functions within the Mechanical Products Team, is looking for
a pat-time materials scientist with adhesives experience to join
our team. This position will offer a qualified candidate the
opportunity to serve in a support role to advise and assist
adhesive team leads on large scale system level adhesive
application projects and train others in fundamentals of adhesive
systems. Project support and training will involve application and
testing of materials including adhesives, thermal interface
materials, polymers, tapes, labels, composites, and various other
production materials.You will support project leads involved in all
phases of product life cycle (including design, development, and
production) for a multitude of programs. Training and support will
cover a wide range of topics from material characterization,
development, process improvement, obsolescence, and failure
analysis. Training of early carrier engineers will require
direction in attention to detail, fundamental scientific and
material knowledge, testing of materials, and documentation of
results. Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and
suppliers is required.You must be able to coordinate a wide variety
of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements at the
direction of adhesive team leads. You will become part of a

Anticipate:
- Mentoring early carrier team members in adhesive systems and
application
- Assessing and addressing knowledge gaps in early carrier
engineers through hands on testing of materials using a variety of
laboratory techniques and instrumentation at direction of adhesive
team leads.
- Support senior adhesive SMEs with large-scale adhesive and
materials type projects including failure analysis investigations
by
- following standard written protocols and utilizing a variety of
databases
- assessing materials based on conformance to specifications
- documentation and communication of results and findings
- Provide novel adhesive subject matter expertise to support
adhesive team leads in technical execution
- Travel to and engagement with suppliers to support production
efforts and product quality control
- Consistent engagement with adhesive leads and management to
provide project status updatesQualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
(STEM) specifically in Chemistry or Materials
Science/Engineering
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in adhesives or (8)
with an advance degree.
- Academic or professional experience with adhesive and thermal
interface material design, application, and failure analysis.
- An active and in-scope US security clearance Qualifications We

- System level understanding of RMD products
- Adhesion application knowledge in hypersonic systems
- Understanding of material safety datasheets and
Military/Industrial Specifications
- Understanding and hands on experience of Instrumental Analysis
techniques (FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, DMA, TMA, TGA, Rheology, GCMS, NMR,
ICP-OES, HPLC, GPC, SEM, EDS)
- Understanding of Analytical Chemistry
- Understanding of Polymer Chemistry
- Understanding of Systems Engineering
- Experience designing and applying adhesive materials at a
system level, particularly in an Aerospace environment
- Adhesives or thermal interface material type research in an
academic or industrial setting
- Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time
management skills
- ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation
standard.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal scientific communication
skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale
multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure
analysis investigations
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing
analyses
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from
diverse communities and cultures
- Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a
