The Instructor, Material Handling and Distribution Operations position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24. -- Summary of Duties: Prepares students to understand theoretical principles and perform warehouse production and logistics such as inventory control, planning, transporting and operations. Key Areas of Responsibility: Instructs students in Material Handling & Distribution Operations career technical training program.Develops and prepares lesson plans; recommends curricula changes and supplemental materialsInstructs students in working in warehousing, distribution, logistics, supply chain and/or dock planning.Educates students in the use of warehouse technology such as barcode scanners, portable data terminals and warehouse signage.Instructs students in the use of material handling equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts and hand trucks.Participates on evaluation of students' progress (ESP); establishes quality goals for students during each evaluation period.Maintains students' accountability by documenting class attendance daily.Maintains and monitors progress and attendance records, frequently updating individual student progress on Training Achievement Records (TARS).Controls use of equipment and supplies; make minor repairs and recommends purchases.Assists in developing community linkages and Work-Based Learning (WBL) sites for the Material Handling & Distribution Operations technical training program.Maintains a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.Ensures students learn and practice set behavioral expectations that support employability and social development for career readiness success.Maintains accountability of students and property; adheres to safety practices.Follows all integrity guidelines and Quality Assurance procedures; ensures no manipulation of student data.Ensures Center Material Handling & Distribution Operations program meets or exceeds Department of Labor / Human Learning Systems performance goals.Responsible for providing students with training leading to Career Technical Training completion and industry-recognized certifications. ----Provides students with comprehensive and individualized case management that ensures student progress, achievement and completion of the Job Corps program. -- -- Holds students accountable for following Center's dress code/behavioral standards of conduct.Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards.Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines. -- PROVIDES EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION Follows curriculum guidelines, organizes program of practical and technical instruction including demonstrations of skills required in trade.Maintains a strong instructional focus utilizing the elements of effective instruction.Communicates a high level of expectation to all students.Communicates clear learning goals to students.Adapts instruction to meet the needs of all students.Develops lessons and lesson plans that address various learning styles.Sequences content at an appropriate pace. -- PROVIDES EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Effectively and consistently enforces rules and follow procedures.Be well-organized and have all materials, equipment, etc., ready for immediate use.Establishes appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understoodby all students. -- PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Participate in professional growth opportunities and demonstrates professionalism.Participates in professional and/or community organizations or events.Completes routine assigned tasks and complies with Department of Labor /Human Learning Systems requirements.Communicates effectively and professionally with colleagues, stakeholders and students. -- Credentials: Education and Experience Four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. -- Individuals applying should have prior experience in some aspect of supply chain logistics in industry. -- Teaching experience preferred -- Certifications, Licenses, Registration Authorized MSSC Certified Logistics Technician Instructor certification preferred. Must at least have MSSC-Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification or be able to obtain within 180 days Valid Arizona driver's license; Must have Forklift Operator Certification or able to obtain within 90 days of hire Physical Demand The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
